About La Zafra:

A powerful new musical inspired by true events, La Zafra tells a story of love, labor, and the longing to belong. When Moises Juarez leaves the sugarcane fields of Mexico for the promise of opportunity in South Carolina, he finds more than just work—he finds resistance, resilience, and an unexpected romance with Kara Wyse, the daughter of the orchard owner. As their relationship blossoms across cultural divides, their small Southern town is forced to confront its own fears and prejudices in the face of change. With a rich original score blending Latin rhythms, Americana, and show-stopping anthems, La Zafra captures the humor, heartache, and hope of the migrant experience. Featuring a vibrant cast of characters and toe-tapping ensemble numbers like “Queremos Trabajo,” “Grand Iguana,” and “Beautiful Autumn Days,” this musical is a celebration of humanity’s shared dreams and the courage to chase them.
